Josh Gregg does a bit of a hat trick here! Layering hypnotizing, trance-flavoured electronica over charming spoken words, the Birmingham-based producer manages to recall the nostalgic feeling of hazy rave music – when dancing to an endless beat was the endgame for many punters. ‘Connection’ is all that: an obscure, dark and alluring gem with a decisively psychedelic flair.
Reminding us of the likes of Dj Koze and his seminal hit ‘XTC’, ‘Connection’ embodies the same hypnotising energy, wrapping the listener into an ethereal and expansive state of mind, allowing abstraction and personal reckoning. Or, simply, getting lost in it. Crucially, the single will be followed up by a series of releases on Gregg’s own label, Poles Apart.
Speaking about his upcoming work, Josh explains: “I love EPs, radio shows, 6-hour sets and 12-inch mixes. I love DJs who thread styles together and recontextualise records in a live setting. I love shapeshifting between scenes and styles”.
