A quirky and curious offering, ‘Future Mommy’ is a brilliant pop tune. Built on an eclectic formula that’s part retro electronica part R&B, the single sees Montana-based duo Desperate Electric layering arpeggiated synthesisers with luscious guitars and evocative vocals, creating a hypnotising record that’s a joy to listen to.
Constantly swapping between male and female vocals, the American pair is incredibly witty in their songwriting choices; the alchemy between a dark male tone (delivered by lead singer Ben Morris) and a blissful, bright female one creates a cathartic harmonic effect giving the record a contemporary quality, quite sensual and ethereal.
‘Future Mommy’ is certainly a welcome return for Desperate Electric, signalling that their creativity is far from over. Speaking about the record, the pair explains: “A Neo-retro, sun-soaked bop for anyone who knows what they want and who they want as their dummy mommy this summer.”
