Gas Station Pizza Are Set To Release New Punk Album, ‘Outside Of The Box’

In a world where everything is sonically perfect, sometimes you just want to hear raw character, punchy nonchalance and strong charisma. Tired of an industry where everything has to sound robotic and machine-made, Florida-based punk outfit Gas Station Pizza decided to take a stand, by focusing on material that’s not overworked, instead recorded on the spot, leaving any casual mistake in it, as a testimony of humanity. As a result, ‘Outside Of The Box’ – the group’s debut album, releasing end of September – carries a certain immediacy, an easiness towards being digested, and the sensation – when listening – to being almost at a gig, listening GSP live.

It all started with Jason Banning, who – after previous experiences in metal bands – decided to get back to his roots, 90’s punk mixed with soft metal. In doing, so he took in fellow bandmates Javier Perez, Cody Nordine and Elden Santos. Eventually, Gas Station Pizza were created, with a special mission: being true to themselves.

Releasing on September 23rd, Outside Of The Box will contain 10 tracks, opening with ‘Space Coast’. A strong statement from the beginning, the track features field recordings floating on top of an extremely energetic punk instrumental, showcasing all of the band’s musical prowess. Guitars are quite heavily distorted, reflecting the fact that metal is not forgotten, instead living in the band’s aesthetic as a secondary genre. The record seems to have a knack for funny recordings and soundbites taken from different contexts, which appear regularly on every track and gift GSP a very peculiar identity. Interesting! ‘A Road Called Life’ is the only electronic-based track in ‘Outside Of The Box’, and we love it, very lo-fi, dark-wave-y.

A surprisingly fresh album from the Florida band.
