Experiencing the 90s as a kid, I have a plethora of hidden and unconscious memories stored in my brain. Listening to ‘The 90s’ uncovered a few of them, thanks to the record’s nostalgic, retro-flavoured sound and its sleazy character, curiously a perfect match for today’s chaotic world. Built over simple guitar riffing, approachable distortions and catchy lyricism, ‘The 90s’ navigates indie territories with eclectic flair, resulting in a nugget of musical goodness that doesn’t disappoint.
The paired music video is as vibrant as one would expect, and again, incredibly nostalgic. I should at this point compliment The Castros on their work – good job guys! I have truly enjoyed the single. Frankly, we need more throwbacks, simply because innovation often comes from re-considering and re-organising the past. The Castros do exactly that, interpreting the contemporary through a vintage lens.
Speaking about ‘The 90s’, The Castros explain: “A reminder to people who lived through this golden era that there are still bands and music lovers coming through that not only love the products of this era but believe in its revival”.
