Melina Hazewood Shares Poignant Single ‘Memories are now Ghosts’

When it comes to poignancy and fragility, I can always count on Melina Hazewood. An acute interpreter of human nature and emotional nuances, the British songstress is always keen to explore the many stages of romance, capturing strong and relatable feelings into elegant and immersive musical nuggets.

While the last piece I wrote on her was about ‘Dear Boy’, a track that’s perhaps still quite playful and uplifting, Hazewood now returns with a decisively gentler offering, the deeply reflective and nostalgic ‘Memories are now Ghosts’. In it, Melina explores the difficulty of letting go, evoking how hard it is to get rid of a lover’s memory, especially when still emotionally attached to them.

Empowered by a soothing, ballad-like sonic livery, ‘Memories are now Ghosts’ slowly develops on a bed of gentle textures and anthemic acoustic piano, the perfect setting for Hazewood’s luscious and cathartic vocals. Speaking about the song, she explains: “The song is about the haunting memories of a lost love. It mentions how someone can stay within you even if they are out of your life and no matter how hard you tried to forget them”.
