KNG DAVÎD Drops Menacing New Beats With ‘Bird Drip’

Neal Sawyer

Have you heard of ASMR, short for an autonomous sensory meridian response? Maybe not. Anyhow, it has become popular and nowadays YouTubers are recording all sorts of sounds emanating from materials while scratching microphones. The goal is to meditate the listener.

So what’s the relation to KNG DAVÎD and his new drop Bird Drip? Well, there are sounds in there that you wouldn’t associate with a hip-hop act. You could even say that these sounds create an autonomous sensory meridian response.

Let’s start at the beginning, running water floods the speakers. Besides a soporific synth beat, this combo creates a dark soundscape. ‘Bird Drip’ enters full flow when the big kick booms and fills the bass frequencies. A clap on the off-beat and jigging hi-hats sizzle alongside. When another higher pitch bellows over the top, we’re listening to KNG DAVÎD at his best. Layering sounds with sleek production quality to create vibes.

But back on the ASMR. When the pitch bend breaks, you’ll discover chirping birds. And like the coffee drop scene in Usual Suspects, there it is. Chirping birds, and dripping water… ‘Bird Drip’.

There are no lyrics in ‘Bird Drip’ but it isn’t short of emotion. The menacing synth sounds and dark forthright beats make the vibe moody. KNG DAVÎD is an expert at this and the world is his oyster. ‘Bird Drip’ is the beginning. What next? A collaboration with a vocalist. Or, a placement on an advert? ‘Bird Drip’ certainly has those qualities. But, only time will tell.

But for now, let’s admire this truly independent artist. He does it all, from the instrumentation to production. That’s impressive. And the fact he creates music that bangs like this, KNG DAVÎD is onto a winner.
