Giacomo Vanelli Shares Hypnotising Experimental Album

‘A Closer View Of My Inner Self’ is a rather emblematic offering. Oscillating between avant-garde electronica, deep ambient soundscapes and free-form jazz stylings, the record showcases itself as an ever-evolving entity, a modulating, liquid body of work which completely hypnotises the listeners. Facilitating a trance-like status, the keen music fan will be hard-pressed not to enter a heightened state of consciousness, a nostalgic and melancholic state of mind which will spring to mind many forgotten memories.

Perhaps that’s why ‘A Closer View Of My Inner Self’ exists: to break the chains of daily boredom, to open up a limitless universe we didn’t know was there. Whichever reasoning you attribute to the album, something is certain: Giacomo Vanelli pens an absolute masterpiece here. Sonically, it’s a daring record: if the opener act (‘We Can’t Afford To Be Wrong) pivots around Nordic jazz influences (think Nils Petter Molvaer), its follow-up (‘How Are You Going To Get That Grand Piano Inside Your House’) is tenaciously more pointillistic and leftfield, embarking on an ethereal journey around brilliant textures and piano-based sonic effects.

Recorded at the Musicaio Studio and mastered by Matteo Sandri at Mono Studio, the album is now available via Shady Ridge Records.
