Fierceness! Energy! Unwavering Slay! Trevour Amunga!! How does that sound, eeeh? Well, it sounds sick! Los Angeles hip-hop hero Amunga showcases his worth and creative genius once again, this time focusing on a three-track EP that’s eclectic, bright and bubbly, ‘Akira’s Blues’ – the perfect encounter between hyper-pop stylings and conventional hip-hop.
Speaking of conventional; to be honest, there’s none of it here. Amunga champions a futuristic, unique vision that transports the project to the forefront of the music industry, part of the boundary-pushing avant-garde that helps the overall artistic landscape stay relevant and provocative.
We are particularly fond of the EP opener, ‘Candy Paint’, an enthusiastic, vibey and expansive piece built on long synthetisers and liquid beats. Trevour’s playful, highly personal vocal flow crowns the record perfectly, commanding the listener’s attention completely. Speaking about the inspiration behind it, he explains: “This EP is titled Akira’s Blues because I’m still dealing with the same struggles, I’m still chasing after those same goals. I’ll get to them eventually, but it’s just this blues won’t leave me be.”
