Following up on their previous single ‘Working Like a Robot’, the project has now released a remix version of ‘Small Town Blues’ by Solid Mitch. The record takes the song to more contemporary settings, balancing a TR-808 drum machine against sweeping synths. It’s this simplicity, this functional minimalism that greatly enhanced the vocal’s lyrical impact. We can now fully appreciate the magnitude of About Gorillas and Vampires’ lead vocals: an expressive, sultry tone pairing well with their metaphorical lyricism, transporting the listeners to an alternative universe where we do actually feel the blues (emotionally at least), but it’s also relaxing and rewarding at the same time.
