The keen reader might remember reading about Melina Hazewood last year. Writing about ‘Powerful’, we proudly described her vocals as “a heart-shaking and intense tone, often delivered with theatrical flair and melodramatic energy”. We stand by our words: the British songstress knows how to pack poignancy and elegance into a record.
Coincidentally, she’s now back with another slice of blissfulness, although this time around it’s lighter and more uplifting. ‘Dear Boy’ builds its character on classic, orchestral pop, pivoting a strong playful and cheering character with Hazewood’s nuanced and gentle vocals. Only 16 years old, Melina boasts incredible talent, a feature that we are confident won’t go unnoticed in the wider music industry.
Hailing from a musical family, Hazewood has already ticked off a generous amount of achievements, such as winning the Best SingerSongwriter and Coup du Jury prize at The Golden Voices International Singing Contest in Cannes. Speaking about ‘Dear Boy’, she explains: “The girl plays around with the fact that she is seen as a ‘goddess’ but tries to kindly talk some sense into the guy and make him realise that what he sees in her is unrealistic. Ultimately, she wants to be loved for who she really is, not how he perceives her.”
