Johnny PE knows that very well, penning a track that aims to shine a light on the hardship of depression and mental health struggles.
Overcoming such challenges is essential in the face of personal expression, especially in the music field. ‘Changes’, the American songster’s latest effort, focuses on that very same theme, delving into Johnny PE’s own experiences while embarking on a peculiar, quirky pop journey which seems to take its primary influences from neighbouring genres, such as alt-country (popular in the artist’s home city, Nashville) and a touch of hip-hop flavourings.
Speaking about the single, PE explains: “A song about the struggles of addiction and acknowledging that the only thing holding someone back from success is themselves”. The record features an intense music video, made in collaboration with video director 3:00 AM. The track’s production is by renowned sonic alchemist MCV.
