I am always very keen to write about YODASHE. The London-based producer, songwriter, artist and general creative can be seen as a sonic alchemist, an enlightened interpreter of electronic music, especially in its vintage stylings. ‘FAM’ is her latest effort, a dynamic and electrifying piece featuring a rare and epic piece of equipment, the EDP Wasp synthesiser.
Released in the late 70s, the little machine helps YODASHE to achieve icy and gritty tones, further enhanced by wide distortion and saturation. ‘FAM’ develops as a noisy, industrial offering, managing to retain a good amount of song form once YODASHE’s evocative vocals join in. Featuring English and French lyricism, the single feels enchanting and charismatic, once again showcasing the leftfield and experimental flair the project has to offer.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, YODASHE explains: “‘FAM’ is an ode to spontaneity, playfulness, femininity and the beauty of living in the moment, heavily inspired by the existential monologues and explosive characters of the female protagonists in Jean-Luc Godard’s French New Wave films”.
