Ever since the release of last year’s single ‘Bonfire’, we’ve been fascinated by the work of Kyiv-based three-piece Polyvoda. Influenced sonically by Western traditions, the band incorporate everything from British jazz to American hip-hop and R&B into their sound. It’s a hypnotic fusion of styles and genres that truly needs to be heard to be fully understood and appreciated.
‘Queens’ is the act’s debut EP, and features the aforementioned single ‘Bonfire’ as well as another personal favourite in ‘Homeless’. ‘Queens’ and ‘Drunken Road’ are the other two brand new tunes that make up the EP, and the former also serves as the record opener.
Described by band member Denis Levchenko as, “our modest tribute to all women” ‘Queens’ is an edgy and powerful little number that is deeply soulful and immersive. The perfect start to proceedings! ‘Drunken Road’ then steps up to the plate with a groovy and funky presence that’s simply impossible to not get swept up in.
‘Bonfire’ and ‘Homeless’ complete the EP and, as you already know, they’re two tracks that we’ve already fallen deeply in love with. We know you will too! What a band!
