While the pandemic offered challenges to a big chunk of society, for some it also created opportunities. For instance, the opportunity to discover a new passion, or to start a project you have been putting off for months. Suddenly, time was in everyone’s hands. For Lee and Richard, that meant jamming around the kitchen table, exploring a common longing for alt-rock sensibilities and gritty riffs. After inviting charismatic singer Cherry to join in, a new project was born: The Here and Now.
Hailing from London, the talented trio debuted this year with ‘Take Me As I Am’, a solid exercise in groovy, fuzzy, riff-based rock goodness. Earlier this month, they returned with ‘Dreams of Grandeur’. Playing on their strengths, The Here and Now continue building on a minimal sonic landscape, with drums and guitar driving the track forward and the bass supporting them. Crowning it all, we find Cherry’s precise, expressive vocals, showcasing all of their singing prowess. Boasting a powerful vocal tone, she’s able to cut through the guitars effortlessly.
Lyrically, we are in self-reflection territories. As the group explains: “Dreams of Grandeur reflects on where our past selves thought we would be in life by now. Whilst all completely comfortable with how our lives have progressed, we use this song to reflect on past dreams/visions and wonder why things didn’t play out how we envisioned.”
