German-based alternative punk-rockers Coma Beach came crashing into my world last year when I stumbled upon their energetic and hard-hitting tune ‘Another Song’. Taken from the band’s debut album ‘The Scapegoat’s Agony’, it was a track that really resonated and stuck with me.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to one more song from the record titled ‘Extreme Masochist’. Serving as the fourth single from the album, it’s another raw and powerful punk-rock anthem. Doing away with the acoustic guitar that we heard in ‘Another Song’, ‘Extreme Masochist’ is an all-out assault on the auditory senses. Gritty, intense, and aggressive!
As for the meaning behind the tune, Coma Beach tells us that, “having spiralled through various delusions of grandeur and humiliation, the unnamed antihero experiences emotional catharsis by facing head-on the painful and tortuous reality of the human condition”.
I think a big reason for my admiration is that the band deals with real issues. They’re clearly well-read and deep thinkers, and that curiosity for life and all of its hardships shines through brightly in their music. Do yourself a favour and give ‘The Scapegoat’s Agony’ a spin!
