We love this EP!! Opener ‘Breakdown’ reminds us of Miss Kittin and her signature brand of icy, minimal techno and fierce, sleazy spoken words. It all has a strong German flavour, borrowing influences from retro sound design and synthwave roots. To be fair, there’s quite a lot of Kraftwerk into it, making the record even more unique and anchored in tradition.
The spoken words on ‘Breakdown’ are immensely bold and moody, drenching the listeners with epic and iconic vibes. ‘Komm wir tanzen’ takes the lyrical narrative in native German territories, only natural seeing where the project comes from… Sugartin, the talented duo behind the EP, hails from Stuttgart, and they embody all the electronic tradition their country has to offer. From Giorgio Moroder to Tangerine Dream, passing through The Hacker – the references are many.
‘Imagination’ brings the EP to a close with a twist, being the song delivered in French. Perhaps the poppiest episode on the record, the track feels decisively more melancholic and poignant, making room for some singing action by Iris, the talented vocalist in Sugartin.
