We are fairly familiar with TONYC, having featured a previous single from the project, ‘Trauma’. A gloomy and intense conglomerate of techno and industrial blended with rare EDM stylings, the record clearly showcased the potential the German DJ and producer had to offer. Now, the talented creative returns with his newest offering, a tighter and punchier tune, ‘Balling’.
In it, TONYC delves into hardcore, drum&bass and jungle territories, fiercely raising the BPM count while maintaining a strong melodic component. In fact, even if geared towards a high-pressure dancefloor, ‘Balling’ seems to embody a certain catchiness, meeting popular culture with fashionable sampled vocals and bright, electrifying sound design.
Produced by TONYC himself in his Freiburg studio, the record is strongly inspired by “the cyberpunk genre”, as the young DJ explains. Packed with futuristic and ethereal vibes, ‘Balling’ seeks to relate to a reality that’s perhaps already dystopian in itself; a sign that club culture always moves with the time, even when it goes unnoticed.
