Aoun Gears Up for Upcoming Album with ‘Smoker’s Cough (Afterword)’

Aoun is adamant about storytelling being the driving force behind his lyricism and musical output. Now gearing up for an upcoming album, ‘The Shepherd and All Her Beautiful Sheep’, the Brooklyn-based creative sings personal tales of actual life experience, taking cues from a past relationship while maintaining a very ‘historical’ approach to it all. ‘Smoker’s Cough (Afterword)’ is  Aoun’s latest single, an intriguing glimpse of what we can expect from the project going forward.

From a sonic standpoint, the track is rather minimal and simple (in its most positive sense), layering soothing and cathartic vocals over an evocative acoustic guitar. A record with no ego, ‘Smoker’s Cough (Afterword)’ focuses on its meaningful songwriting, making for a pretty authentic and honest single. Clocking in at a relatively short length – just over the two-minute mark – it all feels incredibly special.

Delving into the inspiration behind the upcoming album, Aoun explains: “The album is structured like a storybook with a Prologue, Epilogue and Afterword. I think what I find special about it was it was never written in retrospect, the first song was written a couple of months into the relationship and each song was written in the moment”.
