Aptøsrs Shares Intense and Dark Gem ‘Rust Mountain’

We have always had a knack for everything retro; naturally, we easily connected with ‘Rust Mountain’, the latest effort by Independent Music Award-nominated composer/songwriter Paul Terry. Going by the pseudonym Aptøsrs, the Los Angeles-based creative delves into dark and gloomy 80s wave territory, blending pulsing, arpeggiated synths with nuanced orchestral matter and a plethora of abstract textures.

The result is an extremely nuanced piece that jumps from sci-fi sound design to massive piano and string contours, together with a busy drum part and tons of space around them all. Essentially, the listening experience is an exciting soundtrack journey, blending witty and fashionable retro elements with more traditional composing staples.

A veteran of the industry, Paul Terry can certainly count on a wealth of technical prowess and inspiration. In the case of ‘Rust Mountain’, he also sought the help of fellow producers Adam Noble, who mixed it, and Robin Schmidt, who mastered it. Look out for Aptøsrs’s debut album, ‘Elders’, expected on March 29th.
