London-based independent artist, producer, and composer Yodashe started 2024 off in style with the release of a genre-bending electro-pop piece called ‘MRKTPLC’. Structured into three parts, it’s a tune that serves as the perfect example of Yodashe’s unique ability to effortlessly switch between genres and styles. Exploring artistic production in the era of social media and algorithms, Yodashe challenges us all to think about how market demands influence musical creation and production.
From electro-punk and darkwave elements to an experimental orchestral section, there’s a mesmerizing blend of sonic textures and landscapes on display. What’s most impressive, is how Yodashe manages to create a cohesive and immersive composition given all these different elements – a true testimony to her skills as a composer.
“‘MRKTPLC’ challenges the notion that music should conform to standardization,” says the artist. “It instead encourages artists to push boundaries and express new ideas through their craft“. A musician after our own hearts, we couldn’t agree with that sentiment any more!
Having taken me straight out of my musical comfort zone, I can’t thank Yodashe enough! We all get a little too comfortable sometimes, and it’s always good to venture into uncharted territories now and then!
