On his brand new single ‘Asheville’, Edmonton-based singer/songwriter Von Bieker revisits his chaotic yet transformative trip to Asheville, North Carolina in the summer of 2022. Hoping for a spiritual lift, he attended an art and spirituality retreat, aiming to rekindle the dwindling faith he held in humanity. After being caught in a surprise downpour one afternoon, Von Bieker found cover at a bus shelter and gazed at the rain streaming down the gutter. Wishing to be swept away by its current and undergo a metamorphosis…the creative seed for ‘Asheville’ was planted.
Sonically, we are treated to a folky and laidback indie-rock tune with an almost country swagger. Von Bieker puts on a soulful and passionate vocal performance that gels expertly with the nostalgia-laced instrumentation, and it’s quickly becoming clear why he is such a highly regarded talent. Honest, genuine, genius!
Drawing on influence from the likes of Bruce Cockburn, Glen Hansard, Radiohead, and Talking Heads, Von Bieker has concocted an eclectic sound that is uniquely his own. He’s also clearly worked long and hard on perfecting his craft, and we believe this dedication shines through in every note. With a large discography already under his belt, I can’t wait to dive in and discover more of his musical gems!
