Nobody’s Wolf Child always had this dark, anthemic quality around them, almost legendary, we’d dare say. Oscillating between massive dark wave pieces and more soundtrack-inspired episodes, the project also benefits from a veiled alt-folk imprint, particularly evident in Nobody’s Wolf Child’s evocative, nuanced vocals. Amongst nostalgic and melancholic lyricism, the British outfit guides the listeners into obscure territories, perhaps with a certain hypnotising power.
Following up on last year’s ‘Human Remains’, the project now returns with ‘LXXVII’ a double single that seeks to initiate a new phase of artistic reckoning. It does so by indulging in creepy intensity and medieval tones. ‘LXXVII’ presents a classic ‘galloping’ groove with a stream of enchanting vocal harmonies on top of it. It works very well – the contrast between angelic vocals and fuzzy instrumental goo is irresistible.
‘Nothin’ – a Townes Van Zandt’ cover – also features as a B-side, a perfect match for such an engaging release.
