‘Cloud Chaser’ flourishes in its elegance and lightness. Quite a refreshing listening experience, the EP feels almost old-school in its stylings, layering Soul, RnB and Funk elements into one cohesive formula, one that perfectly matches Wayne Wei‘s ethereal and soulful vocal tone, gently taking the conversation into relationships’ troubles and the emotional burden around them.
We particularly appreciate the mellow character so well-championed throughout the record. Take for instance ‘Stay’; a ballad-like jewel, the track rejoices from malleable harmonies, spacious vocals and the intriguing addition of an electric piano. You could slow-dance to it, or just listen in awe, letting it take you into dreamy territories. Either way, you are a winner.
‘Out of Control’ bathes in neo-soul references, playing with broken rhythms and wah-wah guitars amidst poignant, expressive lyricism. ‘Hold On’ follow suits turning the energy dial up a notch; quite the vintage flair in it. Title-track ‘Cloud Chaser’ is perhaps the most catchy of all, opening the EP with charisma and confidence.
