Just over two years ago, I came across a tune called ‘Motivational Substances’ by Glasgow-based alternative rockers Pizza Crunch. Given its perfection, I was certain that the band were surely a household name worldwide, and I had just missed the boat. Surprisingly, they weren’t dominating the international charts, but I was unwavering in the belief that they were an act to keep a close eye on. And that’s exactly what I did!
Since then, Pizza Crunch has gone on to release a debut EP alongside a slew of singles, the most recent being their hypnotic and full-bodied gem ‘Advertised Enlightenment’. Leaning into dreamy and almost new-wave undertones, the track reaffirms the band’s commitment to venture into new sonic territories.
“It certainly feels like a step forward for us,” says guitarist and vocalist Ewan Hearns, whose vocal performance is spellbinding, and captivates from the very first to the very last note.
‘Advertised Enlightenment’ also sees Pizza Crunch veer into new regions lyrically. Having been much more concerned with dwelling on the past in their previous work, they now attempt to look to the future and extract happiness in their day-to-day lives. They’re a band that deserves a large audience, and as long as they continue impressing, I will never stop championing them!
