Listening to ‘Comos Los Jaivas’, we had the chance to brush up on our Spanish, as did The Muster Point Project, Canadian project headed by Kevin Franco – also the writer of the single. It turns out, he’s been spending a fair amount of time in Chile, jumping on a mission to honour the hospitality he received. That’s why we now get a record in Spanish, showcasing not only Franco’s songwriting prowess but also his cultural openness.
We are fairly familiar with the group, having written about their past single ‘I Did What I Did’. Their signature blend of rebellious, fuzzy and playful rock’n’roll is perfectly maintained in ‘Comos Los Jaivas’, which perhaps travels towards more uplifting and mellower lands, highlighting Franco’s precise and convincing vocals. Props to him!
Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, the talented Canadian explains: “I wrote this song in Spanish for my new friends in Chile who have welcomed me so warmly into their country and their homes. This is a song we will all sing loudly together at parties and BBQs, with smiles on our faces. It’s that kind of song…”.
