Transcending Into the Unknown Return with ‘Giants’

It’s been a while since we had the chance to write about some old-school, fierce prog-rock. ‘Giants’ filled that gap perfectly, while showcasing a certain eclecticism, a genre-bending flavouring that makes it quite friendly towards neighbouring genres such as hard rock and metal. It is only natural: the record takes a cue from the decades of experience behind Transcending Into the Unknown, Norwegian group spanning two generations of rockers.

Comprising Filip, Robert and Stian Dahlm, the band is a strict familiar affair. Father, uncle and son, the Scandinavian trio boasts a long experience in rock and metal bands, allowing the project to also benefit from multi-generational taste and influence. From the scream-style vocals to the more mellow prog melodies, ‘Giants’ is the perfect evidence of such a unique recipe.

Guitar tones echo the likes of Dream Theater, while the many keys and abstract textures are a reminder of psychedelic tropes and prog rock staples – the likes of Pink Floyd, among others. Clocking in at over five minutes in length, ‘Giants’ also showcases Transcending Into the Unknown’s technical prowess – how about that? The musical gene is certainly in the family.
