Portland-based singer/songwriter and producer, Joyce Tratnyek, has been on our radar for quite some time now. Whether it was her shoegazy wonder ‘Do You Think of Me?’, her deeply personal ‘The Cold Will Last Forever’, or that ethereal little gem ‘Moon Tattoo’, we’ve been with her every step of the way!
Less than a week ago, Joyce decided to unleash an eighteen-track debut album. Filled with the aforementioned tunes as well as brand new material, ‘Solastalgia’ is a bold and audacious first record. But, knowing the artist as we do, that really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Blending elements of bedroom and synth-pop with shoegaze, a little grunge, some alternative rock, and a splash of folk for good measure, the darkly enticing album encapsulates the very essence of Joyce’s musical identity.
‘Fault Line’ is the record’s third song and the first from Tratnyek’s new batch. A rocky and somewhat hazy little tune, the musician’s preference for experimentation is quickly realised. ‘Parallel’ then follows in lush and mesmerizing fashion before the shoegazy beauty ‘Do You Think of Me?’ is introduced.
“‘Solastalgia’ creates a sonic universe that listeners can get lost in,” says Joyce. She’s spot on! A truly remarkable debut album for such a young artist! Here’s to many more!
