Ari Joshua Pays Homage to Bill Frisell in ‘Country Stroll’

Ari Joshua has been extremely prolific in the past twelve months; it’s clear that the Seattle-based musician and virtuoso takes his craft seriously. Judging by the stature of his collaborators, we can fully declare him part of the American jazz elite, completely comfortable in pushing the boundaries of the genre in a contemporary and creative direction. ‘Country Stroll’ is his latest effort, a playful yet complex tribute to fellow jazz icon Bill Frisell.

Joined by jazz and fusion icons John Medesky and Billy Martin, Joshua explores ballad-like bebop stylings, putting the accent on a Hammond organ, his guitar and drum brushes. The result is a mellow, gentle tune that kindly invites the listeners into its feel-good character, managing to hide the trio’s virtuosity behind a wall of relatable goodness.

Speaking about the making of ‘Country Stroll’, Ari explains: “This song is a celebration of the beauty of the natural world and the simple joys of life. I’m honoured to have collaborated with John Medeski and Billy Martin on this project. Their musicianship and creativity are truly inspiring.”
