ooberfuse and David Fussel Spark a Crucial Conversation in ‘Hard Times’

Not all records are created equal. Some are made to start a conversation and spread awareness, reinforcing the crucial role of art in society. ‘Hard Times’ belongs to that exact category. Penned by David Fussel with London band ooberfuse and seminal rapper Snoop Dogg, the single builds its identity on a minimal, melancholic and icy beat, hosting heart-wrenching and honest lyricism.

Having lived on the street for the past few years, homeless film director Fussel is very vocal about the housing crisis pushing so many people to become rough sleepers. In particular, ‘Hard Times’ aims to react to the UK’s controversial politician Suella Braverman, who shared unfortunate comments about it, calling it a ‘lifestyle choice’.

As Fussel explains: “I lived in a tent for 4 out of the 10 years that I lived on the streets. I started using a tent after someone threw a glass bottle that smashed in my face and I was lucky only to have a small cut on my forehead. A tent will keep you out of the wind and rain/snow and greatly increases your chances of survival on winter nights.”
