about-faces Close a Glorious Year with ‘Cinematic and Chrome’

We have been observing about-faces’ musical journey since the start. Debuting earlier this year with ‘Under The Sun’, then followed by ‘The River’, the Leeds-based outfit has constantly showcased a certain eclecticism in their music. Not just guitar-powered indie stylings, but a more complex and nuanced sonic panorama, a push towards eclecticism that’s plenty emotional and inclusive.

It’s a good move, one that will allow the group to connect with a wider audience. Now, about-faces return with their last single of the year, ‘Cinematic and Chrome’, a mellower effort built on strong vocal prowess and relatable lyricism. The track closes a pretty impressive trilogy, certainly unlocking a world of industry attention in 2024.

What truly works here is the alchemy between Sennen Ludman and Danielle Capstick’s vocals, exchanging lines and working in unison. This creates a very quirky emotional goo that’s never tiring on the ears. Rather, it renews the listener’s attention. Delving into the inspiration behind the record, the band explain: “This song is a love song, detailing how complicated love can be. Are they in love, out of love, or have they ever truly been in love? Hypothetically, the song depicts two lovers who find themselves in the modern world.”
