Long albums are becoming a rare feat in the current music industry landscape. No wonder, given the modern obsession with ‘grabbing the attention’ and distilling content to its minimum denominator. Well, Red Mountain Revolt do exactly the opposite, with a fierce and rebellious album packed to the brim with retro-sounding, DIY goodness. It’s an artistic statement giving birth to an energetic and raw record drenched in wide rock references and gritty distortions.
‘Like A Loaded Gun’ features twelve tracks, all with their peculiar character. Introduced by ‘I’ve Tried’, the listeners will familiarise themselves with an energetic, all-out guitar and drum bonanza, delivered with charisma by Kyle Merritts and Christian Nevi, the talented duo behind Red Mountain Revolt. Vocally, we find traces of Chris Cornell and Audioslave, with a constant 90s flavouring.
Of course, the album also moves into mellower and classic territories, as ‘Dysfunctional’ so proudly exhibits. Slick punk efforts pop up in the long tracklist, championing a sound that’s as lo-fi as it could be. Self-produced, there’s something inherently authentic to it, as if we were able to truly grasp the artistic aesthetic behind Red Mountain Revolt.
