Introduced by a sleazy drum beat and light textures, ‘The Clouds Still Hang On You’ is as dreamy and ethereal as the title suggests. A charming blend of British new wave and American shoegaze, the track exudes spacious and cathartic energy, wrapping the listener into its nostalgic and melancholic mood. In fact, it even pushes into psychedelic territories, mainly due to its sizeable length – almost six minutes.
Such an intense and modulating wall of sound results in an unforgettable, life-changing listening experience for anyone out there discovering Koalra. Emerging from Chicago, the talented group has long championed an ever-evolving and eclectic sound, favouring lo-fi drum grooves and shimmering guitars, spacious vocals and an overall hazy aesthetic. There’s obviously a strong 90s post-rock energy in it, but it’s tamed by a modern production.
Anticipating the band’s upcoming album ‘Disasterclass’, expected on December 22nd, ‘The Clouds Still Hang On You’ proves to be a worthy appetiser, and judging by what we heard, we are in for a stunning record.
