Following up from their homonym EP, released earlier this year, London-based rock heroes Castlecombe Drive return with the promise of a glorious and mesmerising second EP. Frankly, we believe them. If their latest effort ‘Blue Skies’ is anything to go by, the record is bound to showcase how the group have matured, refining their charming blend of indie sleaze and alt-rock fierceness.
Introduced by shimmering and mellow guitars, the track soon leaves space for Castlecombe Drive’s evocative vocals, packed with emotions and poignancy. Yes, they might be championing rough distortion and sleazy tones, but their material has a very accessible melodic contour, something that greatly characterises the group’s artistic recipe.
This is quite crucial because it makes sure that they can stay relevant for a wider audience. In an industry where it’s progressively hard to find space or attention, the band’s relatability will certainly go a long way. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Castlecombe Drive explains: “It’s a song that we hope will remind our listeners that regardless of whatever may be going on in their lives at any given time, those better days and bluer skies are always, and will always be, right around the corner.”
