‘Myth’ is a highly unusual record. Built on a plethora of diverse influences, the album strives for authenticity and originality, researching niche sound design solutions and fierce lyricism. The result is admirable: a psychedelic blend of kaleidoscopic electronica and vintage rock guitars, drenched in fuzzy and hazy goo. It all makes for a rather dreamy listening experience, giving the listeners the sensation of being in an alternative universe, one where tradition and future fuse seamlessly in a triumph of colours and vibey euphoria.
That’s what ‘Myth’ feels like; putting together vintage synthetisers and organic instruments, the album is complex and deeply nuanced. Much credit should also be given to Sun Q’s powerful female vocals, so evocative and immersive. Often, they are treated in spacious reverbs and liquid textures, making for a meaningful and ethereal artistic livery.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, Sun Q explain: “Myth is all about tapping into a power that exists beyond our five senses, bridging the gap between the subconscious and logic. We’ve tried to capture that essence through our music.”
