Emily Magner Hurley Shares Cathartic Folk Album ‘Orainn’

This is a record that completely stands out among everything we have featured this year. Penned by Irish songstress and singer Emily Magner Hurley, the record is a slice of transformative energy and hypnotising sonic goo. ‘Orainn’ champions the most traditional and majestic Irish folk tradition, delivering tracks that feel cathartic, celebrative and highly meditative.

The core of the record is its acapella and choir dimension. All arrangements are layered with vocal textures and long notes, providing the perfect framework for Hurley’s spiritual and elegant vocals – obviously, she’s incredibly proficient at what she does. Fusing folk styling with more intricate jazz formulas and classical-flavoured melodies, ‘Orainn’ is as wholesome as it could be, true artistic nourishment for every creative soul out there.

What makes the record special is its social-driven background. The album is set to raise awareness around Stuttering Awareness Mental Wellbeing Ireland (SAMWI), an association founded by Emily herself. As she explains: “I have long been driven by a strong interest in issues surrounding mental health and wellbeing.”
