Calamari For Lunch Share Mesmerizing Album ‘Mind Games’

While on the surface it might be considered a rock album, ‘Mind Games’ is decisively more eclectic, infusing classic stoner tones with psychedelic stylings, while mirroring a spacious, modern sound. In fact, we’d say there’s a touch of shoegaze in it as well, although that might have been unforeseen by the group. Based between London and Piombino, Calamari For Lunch are sort of a band in exile, with all members originating from Italy. This gives them a creative edge, allowing them to incorporate more kaleidoscopic elements in addition to classic post-punk references.

‘The Mind Game, Lost The Game’ is the album’s ending, but also one of the most enlightening pieces in it. Incorporating world music and hypnotising vocals, Calamari For Lunch surprise and conquer even the most apathetic of listeners, a sign that the Italian band has their priorities right. They pursue unfiltered, authentic personal expression, something that’s very crucial these days.

Speaking about ‘Mind Games’, the band explain: “A dark album with glimmers of light like fireflies in the middle of the night lighting the way…”. Well, for us the record is a bright star, an album that we are confident will stick with us for a while.
