Gearing us up for the weekend is the cracking new album from Baltimore-based singer/songwriter Will Sims. ‘You Have a Voice, Use It’ marks the artist’s fourth studio record to date, and he has described it as “a collection of songs that capture my emotions stronger than any other”. He sets the bar high for himself, as he always does, and for just under thirty minutes, he never lets us or himself down!
‘Lose Control’ is the album’s opening track, and it’s a fierce and fiery beginning to proceedings. A gritty guitar riff meets pounding drums and intense bass lines before Will’s powerful and penetrating vocals make their introduction. ‘Move It or Lose It’ then follows, and does so in a similar thumping and punchy manner. Short and sweet, it’s a banging anthem that gets you right in the fist-pumping mood!
‘To Remind You’ serves as the record’s third tune, and it might be the catchiest song of the lot. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still intense and hard-hitting, but its infectious hooks and memorable chorus stay with you long after the track is over.
I shall leave the remaining five tunes for you to discover on your own. All I’ll say is that ‘You Have a Voice, Use It’ is, hands down, one of my albums of the year!
