Masha Jana Explores Lost Love in ‘Let Go’

Positioning herself onto eclectic, elegant and indie pop territories, Masha Jana is a bit of a treasure trove, in the sense that behind a seemingly common pop arrangement, she delivers nuanced, enlightened and literary-informed lyricism, offering the listener a more meaningful listening experience than usual, especially when delving into Jana’s inspiration for such a jewel.

‘Let Go’ is the strongest evidence of that: Masha’s latest effort, the song is primarily influenced by the love poetry of Akhmatova and Tsvetayeva, Russian authors whom many won’t be familiar with. Jana is, though, especially thanks to her Slavic roots and the help of her dear grandmother. ‘Let Go’ gets wrapped into melancholic poignancy and controlled nostalgia, reflecting on lost love and the ability to move on with one’s life.

Her vocal tone fits such settings perfectly, being evocative yet restrained, keeping a sort of playful seriousness that goes a long way toward making the single an irresistible gem. Speaking about ‘Let Go’, she explains: “It is whatever a breakup song would be if you didn’t actually date the person it’s about.”
