We have been writing about Shaampoo Records a fair amount of times in the past, always mesmerized by his eclectic and quirky electronic style with a decisively retro outlook. Well, now he seems to have fully embraced his vintage character, releasing a period-corrected cover of Robert Palmer’s international hits ‘Johnny And Mary’. Incidentally, Shaampoo Records’ vocal tone is very fitting to the track, with its slightly gritty and fuzzy contour.
Wrapped in a bright and euphoric, synth-powered production, ‘Johnny And Mary’ returns on the modern airwaves once again, showcasing its timeless nature. Speaking about the inspiration behind delivering a cover of the track, the Aussie talent explains: “I remember staring out at Barcelona from the airport window, abysmally hungover. ‘Johnny and Mary’, the Todd Terje and Brian Ferry version was playing in my headphones. I was extremely sad about something that had happened in my life, but yet I felt so at peace, I had sort of a moment of clarity, of release, as this song washed through me.”
