The keen reader might remember reading about fierce rock powerhouse Eleanor Kelly earlier this year, when – praising her previous effort ‘Call My Name’ – we proudly declared: “The listener will be met with nostalgia and melancholia, all drenched in charming retro character and understated energy”.
Now, Kelly returns with ‘Sentiments’, a piece that feels slightly more rebellious and gritty than its predecessor. Delving into her usual infectious blend of rock stylings and electronic arpeggios, the record ends up moving away from new-wave influences while embracing a more industrial and garage outlook, something that greatly fits Eleanor’s malleable and powerful vocals.
Describing the inspiration behind ‘Sentiments’, Kelly explains: “It was written as a song of empowerment for all those struggling with both internal and external battles. I originally wrote these lyrics as an outlet for my frustration with the current state of the world, which also has a major impact on my personal life as a young woman on this planet, as well as the lives of many others.”
