Candace in Wonderland Shares Pop Nugget ‘Tom & Jerry (hail mary!)’

We thoroughly enjoyed ‘Tom & Jerry (hail mary!)’. In essence, it’s a euphoric, colourful nugget of pop goodness. Exactly what we’d like for our daily listening needs: a piece that feels uplifting, fuzzy and straightforward while packing a spacious, ethereal and charming production. Penned by Nashville-based songstress Candace in Wonderland, the record is described as bedroom pop, although it is much more than that, it’s honestly one of the best pop offerings we have heard lately.

Working with a valuable team of fellow creatives and producers, Candace in Wonderland delivers what’s an irresistible bundle of joy and relatability, going a little more outside the mainstream, but always sounding familiar and highly evocative. The American singer’s vocals are absolute bonanza: a clear, malleable and precise tone that doesn’t shy away from building harmonies or delving into angelic territories.

Describing the inspiration behind ‘Tom & Jerry (hail mary!)’, Candace in Wonderland describes: “One of the weirdest songs I’ve ever written! It’s about duality… essentially being aware of how messed up the world is and also wanting to just escape into some sort of cartoon land, where injuries don’t seem to have a lasting impact. It’s a very silly approach to writing about very real issues.”
