Describing the circumstances around Wattstax festival, serving as inspiration for the song, The Art of the Sun explains: “Located within the challenging neighbourhoods of Los Angeles, this festival marked a transformative chapter in the narrative of Afro-American music and communities. It represented a monumental confluence of political and musical forces, featuring the era’s preeminent soul and funk artists.”
