We are pretty familiar with Nëk, having featured his past EP ‘Misti’s Blues’ not long ago. Writing about the record, we proudly declared: “Exploring themes of poverty, struggle and irrational fears, the EP is one of the most relatable and heart-shaking records we have heard in a while.” Now, the Maryland resident returns with his latest effort, a charming album that goes a long way in showcasing Nëk’s meaningful and deep lyricism.
‘Love Cost Too Much’ is described by its author as “a culmination of my constantly evolving sound, coming with more consistency and more clarity on my creativity. The sequel to ‘Love Don’t Cost A Thing’. Continuing to push forward the topic of modern love.” Generally speaking, the album is drenched in R&B and Soul references, exhibiting a sound that’s strongly drenched in tradition while looking at the future.
Lyrical influences are pretty bleak and real, with themes of love stacked against reflection over hardships and life troubles. Overall, Nëk’s flow feels universal and meaningful, a welcome surprise in a scene that seems to have lost its contemporary flair.
