Somehow we still hadn’t realized how much of a talent Eva Westphal is. Everyone else seems to be way ahead of us, at least judging by the sizeable streaming numbers the German creative has to offer at the moment. There’s definitely a big hype around the project, something that doesn’t surprise us at all. ‘Adult’- Westphal’s latest effort, is bound to amplify it further.
Westphal’s sound is immensely approachable and relatable, constantly blurring the lines between acoustic and more intense production; the result is a sonic character that feels wholesome, almost organic, at times rough around the edges but in a very natural way – a quality that we are confident works wonder in making the listeners connect to Eva and her lyricism.
Developed by an all-female team of industry creatives – including producer KAIYI, mixing engineer Samantha Henry, and mastering engineer Gabi Grella – ‘Adult’ also empowers Westphal’s vocals in being their best, sharing a highly addictive tone: evocative, soothing yet meaningful and nuanced.
Describing the lyrical inspiration behind the song, the New York-based talent explains: “Adult’ is probably the most personal song I’ve ever released. It’s dedicated to survivors of abuse, and to those who experienced abuse when they were younger. The premise of the song is almost like a therapy exercise: describing what I would do if I could spend just one day with my teenage self.”
