Emerging from Canada with fierceness and character, SAYANA is on an artistic mission. For the next year, she’ll be releasing one single per month, crowning a period of intense writing and meaningful introspection that lasted the better part of two years. Following up on her previous record ‘Small Talk’, released in 2021, SAYANA unveils the first instalment of her new creative streak, ‘Lucky’, a track that – while drawing on the same nuanced electro-pop references – navigates more playful and eclectic territories.
In fact, there’s a strong contrast between charismatic and energetic sections, such as the groovy and bright chorus, and more intimate and emotional bits, for example during the verses. Crowning it all, we find SAYANA’s evocative vocals, often drenched in an edgy vocoder, delivering the lyrical message with lusciousness and authority.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Lucky’, the Canadian talent explains: “Stuck in an undefined relationship, you bet everything you have on this love interest in hopes that they’ll eventually offer you some commitment. Every time you receive a small sign of affection, you feel like the odds are in your favour. But the sunk cost fallacy is real — just because you’ve already invested time and energy into this person, doesn’t mean you should keep playing the game.”
