Rye Catchers Offer Witty and Relatable Single ‘Stupider’

Some of you might recall reading about Rye Catchers on our blog those past few months. In fact, we recently featured ‘Creeping On Me’, a track we described as “a tune that’s the perfect blend of pop and rock. It’s dynamic, bright, and extremely hooky”. Now, the Milwaukee-based group returns with their latest effort, ‘Stupider’, a track that follows up in the same rock and pop territories Rye Catchers are known for.

Only, this time there’s a distinct aura of eclecticism, leaving guitars in the shadow in favour of a synth-heavy arrangement, featuring charming horns hits and bubbly textures. Built over an insanely groovy and empowering instrumental, the record feels fierce and inspiring, guided with charisma and drive by the evocative vocals of singer Nikki Simmons.

Songwriter and head honcho David McClintick Roberts packs ‘Stupider’ with a wittiness that leaves the listener fizzling, boasting tongue-in-cheek lyricism. A talented musician and lyricist, Roberts frequently showcases his flexibility and genre-bending approach to music, providing material that feels fresh, light and relatable. In this case, he elaborates on smartphone culture, something that is becoming a more and more pressing issue these days.
