Smushie and Ryan Gebhardt are longtime friends and collaborators who got together in June of this year to create something magical. Celebrating ten years of brotherhood and mutual admiration, the pair recorded an EP entitled ‘Long Island Railroad’, and they’ve given us a glimpse into just what we can expect by releasing its first single ‘Mr. Number One’. A summery, upbeat, and effervescent little tune – laced with nostalgic flair and panache – ‘Mr. Number One’ is an absolute charmer! The vocal harmonies between the two are superb and those simple yet heart-warming basslines glide their way into your very soul.
Originally both from Long Island, Ryan and Smushie (Austin Koenigstein) now reside in the Midwest, with Ryan in Minneapolis and Austin in Chicago. The pair have extensive experience in the music industry and have both been involved with numerous other acts throughout the years.
Their upcoming EP has been described as having “a dash of longing to it…longing for a place that never even felt like home to either of them”. Tracked on a Tascam four-track cassette machine in a small cabin in Minnesota, it’s a record that I am truly excited about getting to experience!
