We got lost in the record’s music video for a bit (lots of cute storytelling), but eventually, we managed to really focus on the track’s sonic qualities. ‘Tidal Lock’ is a unique specimen, at least in its stylings. A clearly rock-oriented record, it gets stripped of everything except a charming distorted guitar, the sole sustainment for Mosaics’ lead vocals, so charmingly performed by the talented Trevor Johnson, the sole human behind the project.
It all created a rather hypnotising listening experience, with the song’s intensity never decreasing or increasing, instead keeping the emotional toll steady, making for a self-absorbing journey into Mosaics’ relatable and deep lyricism. We wouldn’t expect any less from the Alabama-based singer-songwriter, a true explorer of human nature.
Lyrically, ‘Tidal Lock’ engages in relationship dynamics and the struggles couples often have in connecting to each other. As Mosaics explain: “The track is about a couple who are able to find peace in each other despite the tumultuous nature of the world around them”.
