Championing a wholesome and vintage take on Rockabilly and Rock’n’Roll, Derek Lee Goodreid could be described as a solitary hero. You see, he’s not afraid to pursue his own personal path, exploring stylings that might be considered out of fashion today. Yet, the Perth-based musician showcases how it is all still relevant, leading by example and offering wholesome vibes in an over-synthetic industry.
‘All or Nothing’ is the project’s latest single, a charming, steady and marching gem embracing Rockabilly’s roots stylings. Over rolling snare drums, sticks accents and jangling guitars, Goodreid lays his intimate gritty vocals, quite raw and evocative, almost feral, we’d say. There’s an immediate quality to it, as if – stripped from any modern embellishments – Derek’s voice and lyricism become easy to understand and completely relatable.
Inspired by the genre classic ‘Mystery Train’, ‘All or Nothing’ is a worthy listening experience, especially for the ones longing for something different than the current chart-ready sonic goo.
