Drenched Returns with Powerful Single ‘Slug’

Introduced by a rather The Smashing Pumpkins-Esque guitar riff, ‘Slug’ balances itself over grunge and punk influences, helping give the song a sort of meaningful sonic dualism. From heavy, emo-flavoured walls of sounds to lighter, playful sections, the record feasts on Drenched’s informed look over rock tradition, especially from the 90s onwards. The bridge reveals a softer touch, a sign that the Australian outfit is certainly at home in eclectic territories.

Anticipating a debut album expected later this year, ‘Infinite Resource’, ‘Slug’ egregiously showcases Drenched’s artistic outlook, bathed in nostalgia while looking at the future. Something that also stands out, is the group’s friendly and clear vocals, giving their music a rather poppy appeal. As to say, this is for everyone that can relate to it. No need to be a metalhead.

Delving into the lyricism behind ‘Slug’, the Tasmanian group explain: “It is a thesis statement for the album, a song of reflection and introspection. It is the intimate story of an introverted man standing awkwardly in the corner at a party, waiting to be left alone with the person he is there for. He’s not anxious but wants to observe the social interactions of his partygoers while he waits.”
